Inclusion and diversity from around the world
Australia
The ANZ region is leading our practices with people and I&D at the forefront. From having a national OKR focused on creating psychologically safe environments to day-to-day actions such as everyone saying GOOD MORNING to each other in our shared slack channel.
We have reinvented the I&D committee and instead of putting this responsibility on a few people we have dissolved a committee and opened up the accountability to all MiQ employees. We know we can’t solve wider macro factors that are affecting society, but if we create a space for people to share their concerns, and emotions, and connect, then we are delivering on our promise of putting people first.
We have introduced an I&D hour once a month that we rotate the host for and that host is responsible for bringing topics to the hour and keeping the conversation flowing. We have seen topics from Jewish holidays, to empathy, to miscarriage, to balancing return-to-office be surfaced and discussed without these special hours.
Another tool that fits alongside I&D hour is the Slack channel – where people share podcasts, videos, books or simply a quote that inspired them to connect. We use this channel as well to connect to any relevant global content to ensure we don’t miss anything in our Timezone. We are always looking to improve the way we run I&D in our region but have seen very positive Engagement survey results in the last two surveys with scores of 100% that MiQ takes inclusive seriously so we are proud of the environment we have created and will continue to work hard as we grow to keep the feeling of connectivity and inclusion.
